I enjoy helping families work toward their long-term goals using our firm’s “Educate, Plan, Act” process. Experience has taught me that my happiest clients have used each of these steps to take stock of their current financial position, learn about different strategies that can help them, formalize their plan, and act on that plan. My ongoing role is to execute the investment strategy, provide ongoing updates on how your plan is progressing, and adjust the plan as your family’s situation changes.
You could say that my career in investment management and financial planning began at a young age. Both of my parents – each the youngest of four children - grew up in the shadows of the Great Depression, and both of their fathers passed away when they were young. Fortunately, both of my Grandmothers were strong women, worked hard, and were able to put food on the table in safe and secure homes. To make a better life for our family, my parents were careful with their money, and saved for major expenditures in advance. Their life experience taught them that they should have a “rainy day fund,” assure that there was enough to pay for essential expenses, and then put their resources toward vacations, home improvements, or a new car, for example. I remember informally learning these lessons around the dinner table.
My career in money management has been diverse. In addition to working directly with families, trusts, and businesses, I have played a role in launching a mutual fund, analyzed and ranked exchange-traded funds (ETFs) for two mutual funds, published an investing newsletter, and helped two other firms grow into “large” investment advisers.
To become better at my craft, I have earned two advanced designations: Accredited Portfolio Management Advisor℠ from The College for Financial Planning and Accredited Investment Fiduciary® from the Center for Fiduciary Studies. My Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Economics is from Union College, where I earned Dean’s List honors. From 2013 through 2018, I served on the Investment Subcommittee of the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley; previously, I was a Board Member and Chairman of the Board of both the Mid-Hudson Civic Center and Abilities First. I also served on the Board of Directors of the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce.
My wife Elaine and I are fortunate to live in New York’s Hudson Valley with our three daughters. We enjoy attending various sports events and music recitals in addition to riding on the Dutchess Rail Trail.
